Dolph's New Thumb

Dolph had his thumb joint reconstructed last Thursday. It was in a splint for a week, and yesterday they removed the splint and put it in a cast. He had a choice of about 10 colors. I thought that the hot pink would be nice, but he opted for blue. This is a picture of Dolph with his handle bar mustache. It was taken between 1952 and 1956. 1956 is when he got out of the Navy.

 

 

 

This picture was taken after we were married. He was working at Graves Music, but I don't know if it was in the Albany or the Eugene store. I notice that he had added a few pounds since the Navy picture was taken!

This was taken of Karen and Eric when we lived on E. 24th Street in Albany (before 1970). We lived across the street from the grade school. I made Karen's dress. I made one like it for me, but there are no pictures of us together. That's probably because it looked better on Karen.

Fishing Runs In The Family!

 These were probably taken on one of our camping trips to a mountain lake...probably Detroit Lake...as that was a favorite camping spot for us.

We have lots of fishing pictures...with two granddads (and one grandma!) that liked nothing better than fishing, Eric definitely inherited the fishing gene. I don't see Karen out fishing a lot...she probably inherited her gene from me!

Big Fish!

Adolph and May, after they bought the cabin at Seal Rock, went deep sea fishing almost every week. I think it cost $7 each to go. I went a few times, but it was a total loss of $7, because I don't really like to fish and ocean going boats aren't high on my list either! We ate a lot of salmon. They had most of it canned, but it was really good barbecued. I would appreciate it a lot more now than I did then.

Mom, correcting papers. She was teaching second grade at Santiam Grade School in Lebanon. I think she corrected papers every night of her life. I would help sometimes, but not very willingly.






This is the kitchen of our home on Hwy 20 about 2 miles north of Lebanon. We moved there about 1950 and my parents lived there until they built the house on F Street in Lebanon

My dad, watching TV on our black and white set with 3 channels to chose from. The first time I saw TV was about 1953. The TV was in a store window and it was a grainy picture of the Liberace show. By 1957 the TV wasn't so grainy. "I've Got a Secret", "What's My Line", "You Were There" and "American Bandstand" were some of the programs that were popular.  I can't remember the man's name...he had something to do with the government and TV...and about this time, he described TV as a "vast wasteland". I wonder what he would think now!
